Is God here now?

Is there really a God? One mans perspective.

Is there a God, and if there is, what is God? This is the question I think we all ask at some time in our life. Some of us are convinced one way or another but most of us want some kind of proof. Many people believe that you can only experience God thru old books that someone long ago wrote. Some believe that God is a myth. A story made up by men to control and oppress people. The bible talks about the creation story and how God created the heaven and the earth and then the plants, animals, and finally humans. Each thing he created he looked upon and called it good. Then God rested and hung out with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God walked with Adam and Eve until they realized they had bodies and were naked and separate from God. Since that time there has been this belief that humans were sinful and unworthy of God’s presence on their own. What if the truth is that God did not leave the Garden and the only sin was that humans lost their awareness of God’s presence because they were too focused on being a body rather than focusing on the spirit of God. What is there was and is a loving omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God constantly observing all? What else could be considered worthy of being called God except that?

Its clear to me that Gods hand can be seen in the natural order of creation. Order does not happen by accident, nor does harmony and beauty come from chaos. Gods’ presence can be found everywhere in nature if you know how to look. From the very large if you study the stars and galaxies, to the very small if you look in a microscope. Order and patterns within order and patterns. As above so below. So is the case as well if you look within your own heart and mind. You may find a knowing of your own greatness and goodness but not sure how you know that or an emptiness within you that calls to you to fill it with something. For some it may be a feeling of being connected to something greater, or a longing for something they can’t quite articulate, a certainty that there is more and there is something there waiting. Some believe there is a God but still feel unworthy and even fearful of judgement. The truth is the only thing that matters is what you believe because God always honors free will. I have believed as long as I can remember that if there was a God then he surely knows our hearts and if that was the case then that’s all that mattered to me. Because I always knew there was goodness in my heart. Even if others could not see it.

What is God? God is something so much more than a human mind can comprehend based on our limited frame of reference. God is more wondrously beautiful, awesome, majestic, loving, and compassionate than mere words can describe. In fact, once you try to use words or concepts to describe God you only serve to diminish or limit what God is. The best we can do is try to comprehend God by assigning human characteristics onto something that is much greater than a human. Logically, it is easy to understand that a limited human cannot completely understand or explain the unlimitedness of God. To be clear, when I speak of God I do not refer to any specific religious deity. I speak of God most high, who has been called by many names, the Alpha and the Omega, Heavenly Father, Tao, Jesus, Holy Spirit, The Trinity, Christ Consciousness, Buddha mind, Great Spirit, Allah, Adonai, YHWH, and so on. I use the masculine terms for God because of my Christian foundation of understanding. However, God has all aspects of the divine masculine and feminine and is not limited by gender. The name which you call God does not matter for God knows your heart. You can choose to believe what you read in a book as absolute truth for what God is, or you could seek to have your own direct experience of the living God yourself in your own inner world to experience God’s nature personally.

I spent several years doing my own version of seeking with all my heart, all my mind, and all my soul to find out the truth for myself and experience the nature of God personally. What I found is God is here now as he always was and always will be, for he is unchanging. Gods’ nature is goodness, righteous, playful, polite perfection, mystical, loving, compassionate, and patient. God sees all of creation as very good, including you. God does not change and what he creates as very good cannot be other than what God created it to be. God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. This means God can do anything, knows everything, and is everywhere at once, observing every thought, desire, dream, action, or non-action. In fact, you can’t go anywhere that God is not, and you are never alone or abandoned. God honors human free will and allows us to experience life as we choose. We are free to experience a life that appears to be separate or apart from God. We are also free to seek the living God within and experience a life of co-creation with Gods Divine Will here and now.

For me seeking God is about looking in my inner world or inner subjective experience for Gods presence and guidance. It’s was not just about praying but also about learning to listen and observe my own mind. Praying is asking and meditation is listening. Meditation is important for becoming aware of your own unconscious thoughts and feelings. Meditation is the place to seek God and become aware of the parts of your mind that are not God like. Becoming aware of the parts of your unconscious mind that don’t resonate with God’s nature is the first step to transforming them. Surrendering your fears, guilt, anger, pain, and judgements clears your perception to begin to be present ad see clearly what is here now. Letting go of your stories about what should be, I should have, they should have, we should have and accepting what is, here and now leads to inner peace. Forgiving self and everyone else is part of process of transforming your inner experience from one of suffering and fear to the inner experience of perfect peace and contentment. Meditation is the narrow path that leads to the inner gate to truly “know thyself”.

The path to a direct experience of God includes inner purification, cleansing your subconscious mind of fear and judgement, transmuting your traumas into wisdom. Programming your mind, conscious and subconscious to embody the teachings of Christ is the way that led me to the experience of the kingdom of heaven here and now. Many may claim heaven is some other place and some other time, that somehow God is not here now. That God is somewhere else waiting to judge, and people need to be fearful. God is here now and available for the ones who are willing to seek with all their heart, mind, and soul. God delights in being sought after and being found. The truth is God is waiting even now for his children to seek to know him. God always matches our efforts and meets us halfway, none of our efforts or suffering goes unnoticed.

How is it I speak so confidently of God? It is only by God’s grace that I am.
